Volunteering at Gouverneur Elementary

children on the playground with their family members

As a parent at Gouverneur Elementary, you are an important team member in your child's education. Our parents support in and out of the classroom, fulfilling the expectations set forth by our Board of Education. Every day, you will see parents on campus who are volunteering in the classrooms, helping out on our playgrounds, and helping us make Gouverneur Elementary a wonderful place to learn.

We are fortunate to have support and many volunteers at Gouverneur Elementary. Parents and caregivers are a big key to our success. We appreciate everything you do to help us be the best school we can be. Your role as a volunteer is critically important to our mission and we ask our volunteers to work with the same level of professionalism as our staff members. Please understand that as a volunteer, you may be privy to confidential information about students and we ask that you maintain the confidentiality of our students. This would include such things as refraining from discussing with other children, parents and families; student concerns or behaviors, interactions with others, physical and/or academic abilities, achievement on tests or classwork.

Questions

If you ever have questions about your role as a volunteer on our campus, please talk with your child's teacher or with the principal. We work as a team at Gouverneur Elementary and teamwork means we communicate effectively to make sure we are always acting in our students' best interest.

Volunteer and Visitor Sign-In & Sign-Out

Between 8:00a.m. and 4:15p.m., all school volunteers and visitors sign in at the office when they arrive and wear a visitor badge while on campus. Visitors and volunteers should sign out and return their visitor badge when leaving. Parents and caregivers who are dropping off and picking up students do not need to follow this procedure during 10 minutes before and after drop off and pick-up.

Visitors are required to sign in for all special events on campus before attending the special programming.
